| 7-Jul-2006 | Florian | I have read in your website a decision of the government about a
rolling programme of electrification concerning 5000 km
of lines. As there was no such announcement on the website of Network rail and in other media connected to the railways I was wondering if this is nothing but a joke! |
I am sorry ... but this was just
a "dummy" item. But at least you have discovered that this website does possess a sense of humour .... if not a large degree of optimism about the future. |
| 16-Nov-2005 | Glen | Do you have any information regarding the types of tools used in the construction of electrification equipment? | There are no particular tools used in the construction of electrification.
Most of the tools are standard types, such as spanners, slings, etc.
The main "tools" are the specialist trains that are used to install the equipment. These range from "Permaquip" and "Unimog" vehicles to Wiring Trains and Piling Trains. The most complex of these is the "Wiring train" that runs out the wires for overhead line systems. But there are not many "specialist" tools used in electrification. The reason for this is simple, they are not needed, and they are most definitely not wanted. Any item that requires a "specialist" tool is frowned as if the tool gets lost or broken then work cannot be done. So, in general, the tools used in the electrification industry are standard tools where possible. |
